Be careful during planting season

It’s that time of the year again — planting season. The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds us that Motorists traveling Minnesota roadways this spring should watch for large farm equipment moving between farms and fields for planting season, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Nobody has to remind people living in southwest Minnesota this particular season is vital for the livelihood of farmers who play a big role in the region’s economy. “We have one Earth and we have to take care of it.” The statement was made by Marshall Noon Rotary Club member Laura Mueller-Anderson last week on Earth Day during a cleanup of the diversion channel near Highway 59 in Marshall. Students from Marshall High School and Southwest Minnesota State University and professors form SMSU joined the Rotary group in the diversion channel project. Thumbs Up Capt. Bianchi receives long overdue welcome home After over 80 years, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and New Ulm native Capt. Willibald Charles Bianchi has returned home. Bianchi was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery and valor above and beyond the call of duty for his heroic actions in Bataan, Philippine Islands during WWII. Unfortunately, before Bianchi could receive the award, he was captured by Japanese forces and held as a prisoner of war. Thumbs Up Dancing like the Stars inspiring Last weekend 2B Continued hosted its sixth annual Dancing Like the Stars event in Glencoe and it was another rousing success. The dancing competition netted $560,000 to support suicide prevention, mental health, wellness education and outreach across rural Minnesota. This annual fundraiser is a big deal. The actual competition in Glencoe consistently sells out of tickets to the point where surrounding committees are able to host screening parties. The Quilt Show is back The New Ulm Quilt Show is back. The show started Friday at the Royal Oak Event Center, but will continue from 9-4 p.m. Saturday and feature over 300 quilts on display. The Quilt Show is put on by the Prairie Piecemakers Quilt Guild and is unique in that it is held every other year instead of annually. In addition to the quilts on the display, visitors to the show will be able to shop at vendor booths for quilts and materials for making quilts. Easter is here Thumbs Up This Sunday most of the country will be celebrating Easter. In the lead up to Easter Sunday, there will be several holiday themed events held in the community. New Ulm’s Park and Rec traditionally holds an egg hunt in Harman Park today before Easter. It will be moved indoors to the Civic Center due to the weather. The Schell’s Brewery will also host an egg hunt this afternoon. Outside of New Ulm, Easter egg hunts are scheduled in Fairfax, Hanska and Sleepy Eye.
