Wabasso makes quick work of MVL

Wabasso 3, MVL 0

WABASSO – Wabasso beat Minnesota Valley Lutheran 25-7, 25-17, 25-9 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball game on Thursday.

Wabasso’s Lainy Rohlik finished the night with 26 set assists and Maddy Guetter delivered 14 kills. Alison Benz tallied eight digs for the Rabbits.

For the Chargers, Brittany Sanders had 12 set assists. Hannah Biedenbender had 16 digs and Haley Birkholz finished with seven kills.

Wabasso (6-2) will host a tournament on Saturday and MVL (0-9) is at New Ulm Cathedral next Thursday.

St. Mary’s 3, Cathedral 2

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated New Ulm Cathedral 25-13, 16-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-11 in Tomahawk Conference volleyball action on Thursday.

For Cathedral, Rose Hazuka had 18 kills and 19 digs and Jenna Helget had 31 set assists. Nicole Gangelhoff had 19 digs.

Stats were not available for Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s.

St. Mary’s (11-1) is at Springfield on Tuesday and Cathedral (6-5) is at Nicollet on Monday.

St. James 3, New Ulm 2

ST. JAMES – St. James defeated New Ulm 25-15, 20-25, 20-25 25-22, 15-13 in Big South Conference volleyball action on Thursday.

Leading New Ulm was Kenzie Depew with six blocks and four kills, Sarah Longtin with 36 digs and Kayla Brandes with 21 digs and 15 set assists.

New Ulm plays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Fairmont.

CM/C 3, Sleepy Eye 0

COMFREY – Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defeated Sleepy Eye 25-11, 25-12, 25-17 in a Tomahawk Conference match on Thursday night.

CM/C’s Abby Jemmings led the team with 31 set assists and Paige Richert finished with 13 kills. Jordan Kevelin tallied six ace serves and Lauren Boyle had 22 digs.

CM/C will travel to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday.

Nicollet 3, Maple River 2

MINNESOTA LAKE – Nicollet beat Maple River 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 17-25, 18-16 in a nonconference match on Thursday night.

Nicollet’s Natasha Young tallied 22 kills with Lindsey Boerger finished with 20 kills and Nicole Hall had 30 set assists. Boerger had nine blocks and Brooke Skrien had eight blocks.

Nicollet will host Mankato Loyola on Thursday.

Jordan 3, Sibley East 2

GAYLORD – Jordan defeated Sibley East 25-12, 25-20, 16-25, 22-25, 15-9 in a Minnesota River Conference volleyball game on Thursday.

Sibley East was led by Morgan Sterns, who had 13 kills and 20 set assists. Rachel Rettmann had 11 kills, six digs and two blocks and Taylor Brinkman had 27 set assists, five kills and five digs. Taylor Perschau was 23-for-24 serving with three aces, 11 digs and three kills.

Sibley East (3-7) plays at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Tri-City United.

SMC 3, RRC 0

LAMBERTON – Southwest Minnesota Christian beat Red Rock Central 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 in a Red Rock Conference match on Thursday night.

RRC’s Kennedi Janssen delivered 12 set assists with Rachel Kedl finishing with 11 kills and Hannah DeCock adding nine kills. Defensively for RRC, Kedl tallied 21 digs and Janssen had 12 digs on the night.

Red Rock Central will host Worthington at 7 p.m. on Monday.

ML/GHEC 3, Madelia 2

MADELIA – Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain defeated Madelia in a Valley Conference volleyball match on Thursday.

Melodie DeVlaeminck had 16 kills and Briana Ardolf had 14 digs for Madelia. Lizzie Cooling had 46 set assists.
