WINTHROP — Despite a strong showing from Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop medalist Cole Jacobson, the Sleepy Eye United boys golf team put together an all-around strong day at Winthrop Golf Club on Monday to win 185-207 in a Tomahawk Conference golf meet.

The SEU girls turned in a 223, while the GFW girls were incomplete.

Jacobson had the top score with a 42, while Carson Lee had the next best score for the GFW boys with a 51. SEU was led by Nolan Kucera’s 44, while Blaine Arneson had a 45, Kaleb Weiss had a 46 and Anders Coulson and Josh Sellner each had a 50.

The girls medalist was SEU’s Sam Price, who turned in a 47, while teammates Kiara Murphy (52), Chloe Walter (54) and Ella Pollard (70) completed the team’s top four scores. Jenna Schweiss, GFW’s lone girls golfer at the meet, turned in a 52.

MVL/NUC boys 105.75, River Valley 50.5, MCW/B-O 40.75, YME 26

SLEEPY EYE — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral boys had another strong showing on Monday in a prep track and field meet at Sleepy Eye High School, turning in a to win the boys side of the meet.

River Valley followed MVL/NUC with a 50.5, while Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin took third (40.75) and Yellow Medicine East took fourth (26).

River Valley won the girls side of the meet with a 98.5, while MVL/NUC took second (61.5), MCW/B-O took third (37) and YME took fourth (26).

MVL/NUC’s Josh Bentler took first in the boys 100-meter dash in 11.74 seconds, while teammates Justin Thompson took first in the boys 400 (54.41) and Kendrick Henry took second (55.12). Elliot Hoffman took second in the boys 800 (2:12.55) for MVL/NUC, while Henry took third (2:30.22). Hoffman also took third in the boys 1,600 (4:48.86), while teammate Will Kaesermann took first in both the boys 110 hurdles (16.54) and 300 hurdles (44.39). MVL/NUC’s Ethan Schauland took third in the boys 110 hurdles (20.81) and third in the boys 300 hurdles (50.59).

The MVL/NUC boys 4×100 relay team of Jared Frey, Bentler, Trace Gunderson and Jaden Helget took first (48.02), while the MVL/NUC boys 4×200 relay team of Bentley, Frey, Ben Halvorson and Henry took first (1:39.06). The MVL/NUC boys 4×800 relay team of Griffin Deterling, Brennan Glawe, Anton Pyan and Austin Vee took second (10:12.73).

MVL/NUC’s Benjamin Rossow took first in the boys shot put (39-1.75) and first in the boys discus (102-7), while teammate Landon Klawitter took third in the boys discus (89-7). Schauland tied for first in the boys high jump (4-6) and took first in the boys pole vault (7-6), while Halvorson took first in the boys long jump (18-4) and Henry took third in the boys long jump (17-10.25). Halvorson took second in the boys triple jump (38-6), while Kaesermann took third (37-0).

For the River Valley boys, Noah Christensen took third in the boys 400 (56.07), while Matthew Groebner took first in the boys 800 (2:09.65) and Jaden Stone took second in the boys 110 hurdles (20.46). The River Valley boys 4×800 relay team of Rauk Rodriguez, Groebner, Matthew Fernandez and Christensen took first (9:17.97). In the boys high jump, River Valley’s Tucker Haala and Christensen tied for first (4-6), while Christensen took second in the boys pole vault (7-0).

For the girls side of the meet, River Valley was led by Hailey Hollar, who placed first in the girls 100 (13.51) and first in the girls long jump (15-6.5). Brynne Ibberson placed first in the girls 400 (1:03.43) and Marissa Pabst placed first in the girls 1,600 (5:51.59) while Yanellie Fernandez placed second in the girls 100 (14.24). Skyla Dauer placed second in the girls 1,600 (6:23.44), while Olivia Milbrath (52.83) and Millie Lax (55.30) took second and third in the girls 300-meter hurdles.

River Valley’s girls 4×100 relay team of Ellarie Blomeke, Erika Wells, Fernandez and Leah Kucera placed first (55.91). Yuridia Fernandez placed first in the girls discus (92-1) and third in girls shot put (27-1). Kucera and Millie Lax tied for second in girls pole vault (6-6), with Kucera getting second in girls triple jump (29-9.75) and Lax getting third (28-2.25). Kenadi Heiling placed third in long jump (13-7)

For the MVL/NUC girls, Emily Brown (17.88), Claudia Weisensel (18.92) and Avery Freier (19.05) took the top three spots in the girls 100-meter hurdles, with Weisensel taking first in the 300-meter hurdles (53.04). Grace Peters placed third in the girls 400 (1:10.71), while Natalie Matzke placed third in the girls 800 (3:03.43), and Avery Hopp placed third in the girls 100 (14.25).

MVL/NUC’s girls 4×200 relay team of Brown, Taylor Sommer, Freier and Hopp placed first (1:57.46). Mackenzie Frank placed second in girls shot put (27-5.5), while Jennare Bates placed second in girls discus (85-1) and Bella Cornish placed second in high jump (4-4).

BOYS TENNIS

Mankato East 4, New Ulm 3

MANKATO — Mankato East swept in singles competition on Monday, giving them just enough to hold off New Ulm 4-3 in a nonconference boys tennis meet.

Madden Vanderwerf defeated Mav Johnson at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-2, while Quinn Kelly beat Charlie Weidman at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-2, Kaleb Kim beat Gideon Heins 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Guillaume Bibbee defeated Ian Schotzko at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1.

The Eagles cleaned up at doubles, however, as Joey Kotten and Dan Brownfield defeated Brady Clarke and Zach Asfaw at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, Aaron Black and Ethan Neet defeated Ibrahim Ibrahim 6-4, 6-1, while the No. 3 doubles team of Eli Dorschner and Isaac Dittmer got past Michael Frutos and Leland Cramblit 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.

The Eagles (0-2) travel to New Prague on Friday.
