Madelia goes 1-2 in softball tourney Saturday

NORTH MANKATO — The Madelia softball team went 1-2 at a tournament at Caswell Park on Saturday.

The Blackhawks fell to New London-Spicer 9-1 in their first game and lost to Maple River 13-3 in five innings in their second game before closing out with a 5-0 win over New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.

In the loss to NLS, Madelia got a single each from Veronica Ibeling, Corban Tatro and Payton Bruns. Kellie Koberoski had an RBI in that game.

Tatro took the loss in four innings, allowing 10 hits and a walk for three earned runs while striking out three.

In the loss to Maple River, Tatro led the Blackhawks at the plate by going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Alicia Lugo was 1 for 1 with a walk for Madelia, while Bruns and Ibeling each had a double and Lauryn Grev had an RBI.

Makayla Sorenson took the loss against Maple River in two innings of work, allowing three hits and six walks for three earned runs while striking out three.

Tatro pitched a two-hit, one-walk shutout in Madelia’s win over NRHEG, striking out nine along the way. Leading Madelia at the plate in the win was Sorenson, who was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Koberoski was also 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Janelle Callejas was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Grev added a double.

Madelia (6-6) hosts St. Clair/Mankato Loyola on Tuesday in Valley Conference action.
