Chargers take down WEM in regular season finale

NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran won the battle on the boards 44-23 on Friday night to down Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in a nonconference boys basketball game and regular season finale.

The Chargers are seeded second in the Section 2AA playoffs and host Sibley East at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday night.

In Friday’s win, MVL was led by Ben Pearson’s 32 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Ben Halvorson had 14 points and five rebounds and Aaron Black had 9 points and six rebounds. Also for the Chargers, Zander Jacobson added 8 points, while Brennan Bendix chipped in 6.

Gavin Brown led WEM with 21 points, while Redzel Priebe added 18.

WEM is the sixth seed in the 2AA tourney and travels to take on third-seeded Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday.
