Area Roundup: Kettner hits for cycle as Nicollet downs WEM

Nicollet 14, WEM 13

WATERVILLE — Nicollet defeated Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 14-13 in a nonconference softball game on Monday.

Sam Kettner led the Raiders at the plate, going 5 for 5 with five RBIs and five runs scored, also hitting for the cycle in the game. Morgan Arndt went 4 for 5 with an `RBI and a run, while Brooklyn Bode was 3 for 5 with and RBI and four runs scored. Leah Bode was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and one run scored.

Emma Drill picked up the win for Nicollet, getting two strikeouts and no earned runs in three innings pitched.

Nicollet will host St. Clair/Loyola on Tuesday.

St. Clair/Loyola 6, Madelia 2

MANKATO — St. Clair/Loyola took down Madelia 6-2 in a Valley Conference softball game on Monday.

Madelia pitcher Corban Tatro took the loss, recording eight strikeouts, six walks, five hits and five earned runs in six innings. Ashlynn Sweet was 1 for 2 with a double, a stolen base and two RBIs for the Blackhawks, while Veronica Ibeling had a double.

Madelia will host Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman on Tuesday.

PREP BASEBALL

Cathedral 6, Springfield 5

SPRINGFIELD — New Ulm Cathedral squeezed past Springfield 6-5 in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Monday.

Carter Haala was awarded the complete-game win for the Greyhounds, recording seven strikeouts, three walks and one earned run. Brock Wellmann was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while Luke Mielke was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Kade Nachreiner took the loss for Tigers, posting seven strikeouts, four walks, three hits and one earned run. MaCoy Krick was 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Jakob Nachreiner and Chase Groebner each had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Cathedral will travel to Wabasso for a doubleheader on Thursday. Springfield will host a doubleheader against Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday.

BOYS TENNS

New Ulm 7, Fairmont 0

FAIRMONT — New Ulm swept Fairmont 7-0 in a Big South Conference boys tennis meet on Monday, not dropping a single set along the way.

No. 1 singles player Maverick Johnson defeated Jack Hagen 6-3, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Ben Brownfield defeated Dominic Lund-May 6-3, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Thomas Schwartz defeated Noah Vetter 6-3, 6-4, while Keenan Davis defeated Anthony Stegge 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of Nathanial Janssen and Leo Waloch defeated Carter Quist and Olivia Ortega 6-3, 6-4. The No. 2 doubles team of Aaron Black and Rylan O’Neill defeated Tyler Slama and Sebastian Castro 6-4, 6-4. The No. 3 doubles team of Joey Kotten and Gideon Hines defeated Wylee Frederiksen and Simone Castro 6-2, 6-1.

New Ulm hosts Worthington for a Big South meeting Tuesday.
