Area roundup: Cedar Mountain boys beat Sleepy Eye

Cedar Mountain 75, Sleepy Eye 42

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain rolled past Sleepy Eye 75-42 Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys basketball matchup.

Blake Steffl paced the Cougars with 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Dakota Pendleton Sam contributed 19 points, while Blake Schueller added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Isaac Lendt led Sleepy Eye with 10 points, while Robert Romberg added 9 points for the Indians.

Cedar Mountain (8-10, 5-6) will travel to play New Ulm Cathedral on Friday. Sleepy Eye (6-13, 3-11) will travel to Renville to play Renville County West on Friday.

New Ulm 68, Waseca 62

WASECA — New Ulm held off Waseca 68-62 in a Big South Conference boys basketball game on Tuesday night.

Colton Benson led the Eagles with 27 points. James Osborne added 15 points for New Ulm, while Nate Firle scored 12 points.

New Ulm (15-4, 10-1) will host Blue Earth Area at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night in Big South Conference action.

St. Clair 66, Nicollet 48

ST. CLAIR — St. Clair downed Nicollet 66-48 Tuesday night in a Valley Conference boys basketball game.

Grant Burns led the Raiders with 21 points, while Conner Martens added 16.

Nicollet (1-17, 1-11) will travel to Alden to play Alden-Conger on Friday.

BLHS 74, GFW 56

WINTHROP — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 74-56 Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys basketball game.

Braylan Freitag led the Thunderbirds with 18 points. Ashton Buboltz and Cole Jacobson both added 10 for GFW.

GFW (10-11, 5-7) will host Springfield on Friday.

Sleepy Eye 81,

Cedar Mountain 60

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye defeated Cedar Mountain 81-60 on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Conference girls basketball game.

Kadence Hesse led the Indians with 26 points, seven steals, six rebounds and five assists, while Brea Mertz had 23 points and seven rebounds and Cadence Okerman had 13 points and three assists. Paige Haala added 10 point and five assists for Sleepy Eye, while Brissa Hernandez added 6 points.

No stats were reported for Cedar Mountain.

Sleepy Eye (15-6, 11-3) hosts Red Rock Central on Thursday night, while Cedar Mountain (6-14, 3-10) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday night.

LUVERNE — Luverne held off New Ulm 133.725-130.025 on Tuesday in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet.

New Ulm’s Emma Radloff was third all-around (33.725), while Jocelyn Sellner was fourth (33.325). Sellner took fifth on vault (8.425), fourth on bars (7.95), fourth on beam (8.3) and third on floor (8.65), while Radloff was second on bars (8.1), second on beam (8.8) and fourth on floor (8.5).

New Ulm also saw Olivia Eckstein take first on beam (9) and Sophia Berger take second on floor (8.65).
