Cathedral 26

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s earned its third consecutive Tomahawk Conference title after defeating New Ulm Cathedral 76-26 on Monday night.

The Knights (20-1, 15-0) were led by Madison Mathiowetz’s 30 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Reagan Severson had 16 points, six rebounds and three assists. Allie Labat added 10 points and five rebounds for St. Mary’s.

New Ulm Cathedral (5-18, 0-16) was led by Emily Schommer’s 12 points, while Jenna Hotovec had 11 points.

The Knights host Minnesota Valley Lutheran for their final Tomahawk Conference game of the season on Thursday, while Cathedral travels to take on Cleveland Tuesday night in nonconference action.

Madelia 46, USC 42

MADELIA — Madelia edged United South Central 46-42 on Monday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Madelia was led by Katherine DeVlaeminck’s 17 points, while Ollie Glover had 13.

Madelia (3-20) hosts Mankato Loyola on Tuesday.

Springfield 59,

Wabasso 46

WABASSO — Springfield ended its Tomahawk Conference schedule this season with a 59-46 win over Wabasso in conference girls’ basketball action.

The Tigers had four players in double figures, led by Brooklyn Sturm’s 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Also for Springfield, Megan Ploeger, Emma Hauger and Jasmine Novotny each had 10 points.

Wabasso was led by Kelsey Frank’s 12 points, while Ashlynn Daub had 9 points.

Springfield (11-12, 8-8) is at New Ulm High School for a 7:30 p.m. nonconference game on Thursday, while Wabasso (8-16, 5-11) hosts Dawson-Boyd for a 6 p.m. nonconference game on Friday.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye downed Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Monday night in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Kadence Hesse led the Indians with 28 points, six steals and three assists, while Brea Mertz had 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists, Kaydince Thoms had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists and Brooklyn Moldan added 9 points and four rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (19-5) travels to Renville for a nonconference game on Friday night.

Boys’ basketball

St. Clair 75, MVL 71

ST. CLAIR — St. Clair topped Minnesota Valley Lutheran 75-71 on Monday night in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

MVL was led by Ben Pearson’s 18 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Cole Thompson had 14 points and five assists. Also for MVL, Kyler Flunker had 11 points and five rebounds, Ben Halverson had 10 points and five rebounds and Garrett Parker had 8 points, 11 rebounds and five steals.

St. Clair was led by Derrick Zeldenrust’s 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Conner Andree had 18 points.

MVL (4-17) hosts Sibley East on Tuesday.

Madelia 77, WEM 35

WATERVILLE — Madelia cruised to a 77-35 win over Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Monday night in nonconference boys’ basketball action.

Madelia was led by Ja’Sean Glover’s 41 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists and five steals, while Blake Altenburg had 13 points. Kyle DeLaCruz also added 6 points on a pair of 3s for the Blackhawks.

Madelia (10-10) hosts Martin County West on Thursday for a Valley Conference game.

Springfield 67, Wabasso 54

WABASSO — Springfield topped Wabasso 67-54 on Monday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

The Tigers were led by James Coffland’s 16 points, while Brayden Sturm and Brendon Buerkle each had 12 points and Logan Richert added 9 points and a team-best nine rebounds.

No stats were submitted for Wabasso.

Springfield (18-4, 13-3) hosts Hayfield for a 2:30 p.m. nonconference game on Saturday, while Wabasso (12-11, 7-8) is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s for its final conference game of the season on Tuesday night.
