Bullheads win final home game

SEARLES — The Searles Bullheads 35-and-over baseball team won their final home game of the regular season with a 9-2 victory over the St. Peter Saints on Sunday.

The Bullheads wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as lead-off batter Mikale Gustafson reached base on an error and scored later in the inning on Aaron Wilfahrt’s single. In the third inning, Jason Schmitz and Corey Schaefer walked, with Schmitz scoring on Dave Hatle’s base hit.

Searles added two more runs in the fourth inning. Tommy Glaser singled and Al Brekke followed with a double. Both runners scored on a single by Gustafson.

In the sixth inning the Bullheads put the game away by scoring five runs. Getting hits in the inning were Jeremy Mueller, Schaefer, Wilfahrt with two RBIs, and Hatle. For the game, Hatle had four of the 12 hits by Searles. The team had seven walks.

Meanwhile, Dayton Larson was pitching a shutout against St. Peter, until the seventh inning. In that final inning, St. Peter pushed across two runs to make the final score 9-2. With the win, Searles has an 8-7 overall record.

The Bullheads have two away games this week. On Tuesday they play the Jordan Millers at the Jordan Mini-Met and on Friday they play the Mankato Twins at ISG Field. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.

Local fans will get a chance to see the Bullheads and other teams in the Minnesota Senior Men’s Amateur Baseball Association post season tournament the weekends of August 14-15 and August 21-22. For the first time, Searles will be one of the host sites for the tournament, along with St. James, Mankato, and Hanska.
