Steele, Morton, Kamm, Ranweiler highlight All-Journal Wrestling team

106: Parker Kamm, Fr., New Ulm Area

Kamm finished his freshman season for NUA with a fourth-place finish at the Class AA state individuals. He went 34-7 and led the team with 21 falls. Eagles head coach Kevin Briggs called Kamm the spark of the team for getting the team on the board early in duals this season. He also received All-State recognition and All-Conference accolades.

113: Logan Lee, Fr., New Ulm Area

Lee capped off a strong freshman year for NUA with a 29-8 record and a trip to the state individual prelims. He was third on the team in takedowns and was also an All-Conference wrestler for the Eagles.

120: Winsten Nienhaus, Fr., New Ulm Area

Described by NUA head coach Briggs as a key component of the team’s success this year, Nienhaus was able to grind out wins and was Top 5 on the team in takedowns. He finished with a 21-15 record and was one of eight Eagles to advance to the state individual prelims this year.

126: Derek Steele, Sr., Sibley East

For the second year in a row, Steele finished his time at the Class A state individual tournament as champion. He was 38-0 and had 46 takedowns, 18 falls and 202 team points. Steele is a three-time All-Conference wrestler, the conference MVP and has a career record of 178-53.

132: Drayden Morton, Jr., Sibley East

Morton finished his junior year winning his third state title at a third weight class. He was 34-0 this year and had 60 takedowns, 17 falls and 176 team points. Morton is also a three-time All-Conference wrestler and has a 141-14 career record.

138: Tucker Wills, Sr., LCWM

Nicollet senior Tucker Wills, wrestling for Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Area, ended his senior year with a state individual wrestling appearance (final eight) and a 21-9 record. He was a two-time state qualifier, also making state during the 2018-2019 season. Wills was a Valley All-Conference wrestler this year and had 23 takedowns and five pins. He ends his career with an 81-57 record.

145: Joe Anderson, Sr., Springfield

Anderson wrapped up a strong senior campaign with a trip to the state individual wrestling tournament. He made it to the final eight at state this season and had a 34-3 record with 14 pins.

152: Chase Irlbeck, So., Wabasso

Irlbeck finished his sophomore year for the Rabbits with a 14-18 record. He had nine falls and four major decisions.

160: Carter Benz, Sr., Wabasso

Benz wrapped up his senior campaign for the Rabbits with a 24-5 record. He also had 14 pins, one tech fall and two major decisions.

170: Kadin Johnson, Sr., Springfield

Johnson wrapped up his senior season for the Tigers with a trip to the state individual prelims. He had a 29-7 record this year, 14 pins and 158 team points.

182: Cole Ranweiler, Sr., New Ulm Area

Ranweiler had another strong season for the Eagles and finished it with a fifth-place finish at the Class AA state individual tournament. He was Top 3 on the team in several areas for the Eagles and his trip to state this season was the third state appearance in his career. He finished the season 34-2 and with 179 career wins and 120 pins, a NUA record for career pins. He was also a Big South All-Conference wrestler and earned All-State honors.

195: Jacob Hernandez, Sr., Sibley East

Hernandez finished his senior year for the Wolverines with a 21-13 record and a trip to the state individual prelims. He had 11 falls and 121 team points and was an All-Conference honorable mention. He ends his career with a 40-36 record and is a two-time section placewinner.

220: Hunter Taylor, Sr., Wabasso

Taylor ended his senior campaign with a trip to the state individual prelims. He went 22-9 with 10 pins and was a Section 3A runner-up at 220.

Hwt: Jaden Drill, Jr., New Ulm Area

Drill finished his junior year with a trip to the state individual tournament, where he finished in the final eight at heavyweight. Drill started the year battling for a starting spot and quickly earned it. He finished his season 30-7 and received many All-Conference and All-State honors in the process. He also finished near or at the top of several statistical categories for the Eagles.
