NEW ULM — Alexis Rustin’s penalty kick with 33:22 remaining in the second half helped New Ulm to edge Waseca 2-1 on Tuesday in Big South girls’ soccer action at New Ulm High School. It was Waseca’s first loss of the season.

New Ulm’s Paige Kalis was knocked the turf by a Waseca player to set up the penalty kick. From there, Rustin kicked the ball and it sailed past Waseca goalkeeper Erika Herzog to give the Eagles the eventual win.

In the first half, a corner kick led to a scramble in front of the net. Mia Johson got the ball to Bryn Nesvold who scored with 33:22 left in the half.

Waseca tield the contest at 11:28. Thyme Lang took a pass from Madeline Bulfer and Lang scored.

New Ulm (6-4) will play at Worthington on Friday in the regular-season finale.
