NEW ULM — Playing in their first game in nearly 10 days, the New Ulm boys’ soccer team showed some early signs of rust on Friday against New Ulm at New Ulm High School.

The Eagles had some key opportunities in the first half, but Waseca scored the only goal of the half and took the early lead.

New Ulm scored the equalizer in the second half thanks to a goal from Samo Barbosa, but the Eagles were unable to get any more offense going in a 1-1 tie with the Bluejays.

New Ulm (3-3-3) had an early chance to score, but the header from directly in front of the net hit the crossbar and the game remained scoreless.

The Bluejays (2-1-2) scored first after Sage Lang’s shot beat Aaron Dewanz for the 1-0 lead with 23:55 left in the half.

The Eagles had a chance to tie it about 10 minutes later off of the corner kick, but the header went wide left with 12:56 left in the half and the Bluejays took the 1-0 lead at halftime.

Barbosa found the back of the net quickly in the second half, scoring off of an assist from Joseph Goeglin’s pass to Barbosa tied the game, but both teams didn’t have many scoring opportunities. Waseca outshot New Ulm 8-5. Dewanz had seven saves for the Eagles.

New Ulm is at Waseca at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
