Prep roundup: Riederer leads MVL girls past MCW, Cedar Mountain eliminates Cathedral

SHERBURN — Minnesota Valley Lutheran closed out the regular season with a nonconference victory over Martin County West on Thursday.

Abbie Riederer led the Chargers with 23 points and five steals. Emma Nelson had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Maddie Pearson finished with seven assists.

The Chargers (20-6) open Section 2AA playoff action at 7 p.m. on Monday when they host Central.

Nicollet/Loyola 46

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey defeated Nicollet/Loyola 63-46 on Thursday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Nicollet/Loyola was led by Megan Frutiger with 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Marah Hulke had 6 points, five assists and four rebounds and Zoey Weller with 6 points and four rebounds.

Nicollet/Loyola (8-16) plays at 7 p.m. on Monday at Springfield.

Cedar Mountain 52,

Cathedral 46

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain defeated New Ulm Cathedral 52-46 on Thursday in a Section 2A girls’ basketball tournament game.

Cedar Mountain was led by Nadia Meyers with 17 points and Teresa Larsen with 11 points.

Cathedral’s leading scorers were Jenna Hotovec with 15 points and Lily Franta with 12 points.

Cedar Mountain (3-21) plays at 7 p.m. on Monday at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s.

Boys’ basketball

Madelia 68, Edgerton 38

MADELIA — Madelia defeated Edgerton 68-38 on Thursday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Madelia was led by Ja’Sean Glover with 26 points, seven rebounds, five steals and two assists, Kadin Benzel with 19 points and five steals and Kurt Lugo with 7 points and 10 rebounds.

Madelia (10-14) plays at 7 p.m. on Friday at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.
