NEW ULM — The New Ulm gymnastics team vaulted by St. Peter 135.075-130.95 on Friday night in a Big South Conference prep gymnastics meet at the New Ulm Gymnastics Academy, led again by standout sophomore Kayla Goblirsch.

Goblirsch finished first all-around (35.35) after finishing first on vault (9.325), first on floor (9.325), first on the beam (8.65) and third on uneven parallel bars (8.05).

Also leading the way for the Eagles was Ella Freiderich, who was second on floor (8.95), second on bars (8.125), fourth on the beam (8.325) and second all-around (33.95). Emily Guggisberg also finished fourth all-around for New Ulm with a score of 31.85 and was fifth on floor (8.625).

Anna Schwartz was third on floor for New Ulm (8.85) and third on vault (8.75), while Kaylee Hutchinson finished third on the beam (8.4) and Madison Miller finished fourth on bars (7.575).

“Floor and our vaults were very nice and clean tonight,” New Ulm head coach Kortney Peterson said. “The girls really showed off their routines, so those were probably our two best events. They tried some new things on bars and beam that did not necessarily work in our favor yet, but their floor and vault were very strong events for us.”

The Eagles were without junior leader Paige Kalis also, who was in a sling after a season-ending injury she sustained last week on the bars.

“[Not having Paige] definitely made a big difference, especially bars, so we’ve got a lot of room to improve on that event to make up for her,” Peterson said. “But the girls have stepped up a lot. We had two new people in on bars tonight and Brooke [Aschenbrenner] has kind of been in and out on varsity, so she stepped in today, and we even have a couple more that will probably alternate to fill in a spot on that event. They’ve been working on a lot of new skills, and they actually had a lot of falls tonight surprisingly, but they tried a lot of the new stuff they worked on and I think if we clean it up, we’re really going to have a pretty good scoring team this year.”

New Ulm, still unbeaten in the conference at 4-0, is at the Marshall Invite at 11 a.m. Saturday.
