SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Sleepy Eye 62-37 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.
Trent Steffensmeier led all scorers with 23 points for the Knights. Also for St. Mary’s, Nick Labat added 11 points, while Blake Steffensmeier and Carson Domeier each had 10 points.
Kegan Heiderscheidt scored 17 points for the Indians.
St. Mary’s (5-2, 3-0) will play at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday. Sleepy Eye (1-4, 0-2) will travel to Nicollet on Monday.
CM 67, Cleveland 53
CLEVELAND — Cedar Mountain defeated Cleveland 67-53 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.
Trey Peterson-Juhl led the Cougars with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Devonte Charles added 14 points and Chris Dow had 10 points.
The Cougars (2-3, 0-1) will play at Springfield (1-1, 0-1) on Tuesday.
Springfield 87, GFW 66
WINTHROP — Springfield defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 87-66 on Friday night in Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball action.
Decker Scheffler had 32 points for the Tigers, while Mitchell Buerkle added 17 points.
For GFW, Damian Hopp had 25 points, while Johnnie Ambrose added 16 points.
Girls’ basketball
Springfield 52, GFW 31
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield downed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.
Sydney Hauger led the Tigers with 20 points and nine rebounds. Megan Ploeger added 10 points with five rebounds.
Taylor Haas scored 8 points for GFW.
Springfield (5-1, 2-1) will host Cedar Mountain on Tuesday. GFW (1-4, 1-3) will play Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Monday in Fairfax.
Cathedral 53, CM 43
MORGAN — New Ulm Cathedral downed Cedar Mountain on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.
Lily Franta led the Greyhounds with 17 points and Sarah Mohr had 12 points. Jenna Hotovec and Emily Schommer each scored 9 points.
Kailee Larsen and Trista Smith each scored 11 points and had six rebounds apiece for the Cougars.
Cathedral (2-4, 1-2) will host Wabasso 2-2, 0-2) on Tuesday. CM (0-5, 0-2) will play at Springfield (4-1, 1-2) on Tuesday

New Ulm takes 2nd
at NLS Invite
NEW LONDON — The New Ulm gymnastics team finished second on Friday at the New London-Spicer Invite with a score of 135.275.
Worthington took first at the Invite with a score of 137.525, while Alexandria took third (133.925) and NLS took fourth (133.175).
New Ulm’s Kayla Goblirch took first in overall (36.15), first in bars (8.7), first in floor (9.35), second on the beam (8.8) and second in the vault (9.3). Also for New Ulm, Ella Freiderich finished fifth in the floor (9.0).
