Prep roundup: Cathedral volleyball tops Wabasso in 3, Waseca blanks New Ulm, St. Mary’s and Sleepy Eye both win, Buerkle leads Springfield C-C team

NUC 3, Wabasso 0

WABASSO — New Ulm Cathedral defeated Wabasso 25-16, 25-19, 25-20 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

For the Greyhounds, Sarah Mohr had 10 kills, 10 digs and three aces. Maggie Fliszar had 11 kills and 16 digs and Lily Franta had 15 digs. Lily Brenna had 25 set assists and 11 digs.

For Wabasso, Halle Huhnerkoch had 10 digs and five kills. Cora Eichten had nine kills and a block and Bella Brand had 13 digs. Kelsey Frank finished with 13 set assists and Avery Carlson had 10 set assists while Ally Fenger had eight kills.

Cathedral (13-10, 4-3) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday. Wabasso is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday.

Waseca 3, New Ulm 0

WABASSO — Waseca swept New Ulm 25-16, 25-20, 25-23 in a Big South Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.

For the Eagles, Natalie Yackley had 19 set assists, six digs, two aces and one block. Nora Windschill had five kills, one ace, eight digs and two blocks. Emmy Munson had four kills, two digs, one block and Maddi O’Connor finished with two kills, five digs and one ace.

Also for New Ulm, Ally Steffensmeier had four kills, five digs and two blocks and Nicole Albrecht had five digs. Riley Melby had eight kills, one ace and two blocks.

New Ulm (7-7, 7-3 is at Bloomington Jefferson on Saturday for a tournament.

St. Mary’s 3, BLHS 0

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-20, 25-7, 25-18 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference match.

For the Mustangs, Allison Dornseif had 20 set assists and Katie Buboltz had 11 digs. Sara Kottke had 13 kills.

For St. Mary’s, Madison Mathiowetz had 20 digs and Lauren Hoffmann had 21 digs. Allie Labat had 22 set assists.

St. Mary’s is at New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 3, GFW 2

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye came back from two sets down and defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 18-25, 12-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-9 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference battle.

For the Indians, Alexa Steffl led with 25 digs and 21 digs. Emma Schieffert added six kills and 23 digs and Sandy Flores finished with 42 set assists, 14 digs and an ace.

The Indians are now 11-10 and play at Springfield Thursday.

GFW hosts Wabasso on Thursday.

MCW 3, Madelia 2

MADELIA — Martin County West defeated Madelia 25-20, 25-10, 16-25, 19-25, 15-5 in a Valley Conference match on Tuesday.

For Madelia, Brooke Lensing had 12 kills and Lillian Maul had 17 digs. Dora Facundo had 16 digs and Emily Stevenson finished with 11 digs and 23 set assists.

Madelia is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday.

Prep cross-country

Springfield-CM competes at Adrian

ADRIAN — The Springfield-Cedar Mountain cross-country team competed at the Adrian meet on Tuesday.

For the Tigers, Mitchell Buerkle led the way, finishing fourth overall in 17:23. Lily McCone led the girls by finishing 14th in 21:06.
