SLEEPY EYE — Andrew Woitas’ walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th helped lift the Sleepy Eye Indians by the Hanska Lakers 4-3 on Wednesday night in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action.
Alex Woitas got the win for the Indians (7-5), pitching two innings without allowing a run. Matt Berkner, making his season debut for Sleepy Eye, went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, while Matt Mielke went 2 for 4 with a double.
Eric Portner took the loss for Hanska (9-3), giving up three walks, a hit and the game-winning run without recording an out. Portner also went 2 for 5 with an RBI for Hanska, while Kyle Fischer, Derek Wilfahrt and Branson Peterson all added two hits apiece.
Essig 6, Courtland 4
ESSIG — The Essig Bluejays downed the Courtland Cubs 6-4 on Wednesday night in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action.
Jordan Guggisberg grabbed the win for Essig (6-7) in four innings of work, giving up seven hits and two earned runs with a walk allowed and four strikeouts. Erich Prokosch got the two-inning save for Essig with four strikeouts.
The Bluejay bats were led by Jay Helget, who was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, and Isaiah Miller, who was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Corey Schultz pitched eight innings for Courtland (0-14) and took the loss, giving up nine hits and five walks for five earned runs. He struck out five.
The Cubs were led by Jackson Bode, who was 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Jordan Lilleoden, who was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
