Gold sweeps Mankato American in road doubleheader

New Ulm Gold 13, Mankato American 7 (Gm. 2)

MANKATO — New Ulm Legion Gold took two wins from Mankato American on Thursday night in a legion baseball doubleheader.

Gold was led in Game 1 by Jaden Domeier, who was 1 for 3 with two RBIs, while Teagan Kamm was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Aaron Portner got the win in Game 1, pitching the complete game and allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk while striking out five.

In Game 2, Gold was led by Hunter Ranweiler, who was 4 for 4 with two RBIs and a triple, while Teddy Giefer was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, a homer and three runs scored. Braden Zimmerman added two hits and two RBIs, while Kamm and Domeier had a pair of hits each, one being a triple by Domeier.

Jace Marotz pitched six innings in the second-game win for Gold, walking four and giving up seven hits for two earned runs. He struck out one.

Sleepy Eye Post 7 4, Fairmont 3

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye Post 7 got by Fairmont 4-3 on Thursday in legion baseball action.

Post 7 was led by Carter Brinkman and Nathan Walter, who each went 2 for 3 with an RBI apiece. Dallas Bauer got the no decision in four innings, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Zach Haala got the win in relief, pitching three innings with a strikeout and one run allowed.

Sleepy Eye is now 4-0 and hosts St. Peter for a 6 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.

VFW baseball

Maple River 14, VFW Silver 3 (Gm. 1)

VFW Silver 13, Maple River 7 (Gm. 2)

SEARLES — New Ulm VFW Silver split with Maple River in a VFW baseball doubleheader on Thursday night in Searles.

Maple River limited Silver to just one hit off the bat of Carson Helget, an RBI single.

In Game 2, Jace Schaefer got the win in six innings, with Ryan Wiltscheck pitching an inning in relief. Silver was led by Josh Giefer and Riley Prochniak, who each went 2 for 4 with an RBI apiece. Jaden Miller added a hit and two RBIs for Silver also.

Silver (4-2) hosts a doubleheader with Blue Earth at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mueller Park.
