Prep roundup: Tigers clinch Tomahawk title with sweep of BLHS

HECTOR — Springfield swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball doubleheader and clinched the Tomahawk Conference title with the sweep.

In Game 1, Nolan Hovland was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings. He gave up one run on three hits and he struck out four batters. Nicholas Taylor took the loss and went the distance. He gave up three runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Mason Rummel, Mitchell Buerkle and Isaac Fink each had a hit in the first game and Buerkle and Rummel each had an RBI.

In Game 2, Rummel had two RBIs while Isaac Fink and Decker Scheffler each had an RBI.

Elijah Kirschstein earned the win. He went the distance, allowing three hits and striking out three.

Nicholas Taylor took the loss. He went one inning and he struck out one.

The Tigers (13-1) are at New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday.

GFW girls 222, Cathedral Inc.

WINTHROP — The New Ulm Cathedral boys and the Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop girls finished first on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference golf meet.

Ethan Kirchberg of Cathedral was the boys’ medalist, shooting a 37. Logan Martin of GFW carded a 49.

Kayla Goblirsch of Cathedral was the girls’ medalist, carding a 46. Annie Pomplun and Miah Busse of GFW each shot a 51.

SEU boys 159, Springfield 170, MVL 232

SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye United boys and the Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls finished first in a Tomahawk Conference quadrangular golf meet on Thursday.

Mavrick Winkelmann of Springfield was the boys’ medalist carding a 38. SEU’s Andrew Neid shot a 39 and Max Johnson of MVL scored a 47.

MacKenzie Lothert (Springfield) was the girls’ medalist with a score of 43. For SEU, Ashtyn Tauer carded a 54. For MVL, Nadine Clobes shot a 49.

Wabasso Inc., BLHS Inc.

RENVILLE — Wabasso and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart competed on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ golf match.

Audree Ginsburg of BLHS was the medalist shooting a 54. Wabasso’s Jocelyn Jenniges carded a 69.

New Ulm girls finish 2nd at Oakdale

BUFFALO LAKE — The New Ulm girls’ golf team finished second with a team score of 362 on Thursday in the Pre-Section Invitational Tournament.

Jana Julia Boquet finished eighth with a score of 85 and Abbey Frauenholtz carded an 87 to lead the Eagles.

SPRINGFIELD — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart swept Springfield on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference softball doubleheader.

Brittany Rogotzke took the loss in Game 1. She pitched seven innings and she allowed eight runs on seven hits. She had seven strikeouts and seven walks.

Taylor Augustin was 2 for 3 with a home run in Game 1. Mya Mickelson and Grace Pingeon were 2 for 4.

Jaeli Richert took the loss in Game 2. She pitched seven innings, gave up five runs on three hits with seven walks and four strikeouts.

Megan Ploeger led the Tigers in Game 2 going 1 for 3.

Springfield will host New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday.
