Area roundup: New Ulm girls rally to defeat Mound Westonka

New Ulm 4, Mound Westonka 3

MINNETRISTA­ — New Ulm scored three straight goals in the second half to overcome a 3-1 halftime deficit and defeated Mound Westonka 4-3 in girls’ nonconference soccer action on Saturday.

Paige Kalis scored New Ulm’s first goal of the game off an assist from Maddy Roufs early in the first half, but the White Hawks scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 halftime lead.

In the second half, Jessica Moellenhoff scored on an assist from Michelle Rosenhamer 11 minutes into the half. Brynn Nesvold tied the game at 3-3 when she scored off an assist from Roufs and Moellenhoff netted her second goal of the game on an assist from Brynn Nesvold 33 minutes into the second half for the go-ahead score.

Kendra Nesvold stopped 15 shots for the Eagles.

New Ulm (7-3) hosts Waseca on Monday.

New Ulm goes 2-2 at tourney

GAYLORD — New Ulm went 2-2 at the Sibley East tournament on Saturday, beating Nicollet and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop while losing to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and Sibley East

For New Ulm, Elizabeth Wolkow had 54 set assists on the day and Ashlyn Donner had 11 kills and 16 digs.

Madeline Gag had 12 kills and eight blocks and Olivia Wick had 12 kills. Lizzy Shaul finished with 22 digs and Nora Windschill had 14 kills, three blocks and 18 digs. Ellie Bute had eight kills, 15 digs and three blocks and Ally Steffensmeier had eight digs.

New Ulm (8-8) is at Blue Earth Area on Tuesday

Madelia competes at St. James tourney

ST. JAMES — Madelia went 1-4 at the St. James invitational on Saturday.

Blair Van Zee had 28 kills and nine blocks and Faith Bergeman had 30 digs and 71 set assists.

Madelia is at Cleveland on Tuesday.
