NORTH MANKATO — If New Ulm is going to reach the Class AAA state softball tournament, it’s going to have to figure out a way to solve McKayla Armbruster.

The senior pitcher from Faribault limited New Ulm to just one hit. The Faribault offense was also functioning well, defeating New Ulm 10-0 in five innings in the Section 2AAA playoffs at Caswell Park. New Ulm will play Mankato West at 5 p.m. on Tuesday for the right to go the Section 2AAA finals, where it would have to beat Faribault twice.

Ashley Mehlhop had New Ulm’s only hit and that came in the third inning.

Ashlyn Donner took the loss for the Eagles. She gave up all 10 runs in five innings.

Faribault wasted no time offensively, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Faribault took advantage of two New Ulm errors and sent 11 hitters to the plate in that inning.

Faribault added three more runs in the bottom of the second to go up 9-0. It put the game away after it scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
