ST. PETER — On Friday night, Sleepy Eye’s Madi Heiderscheidt was just too much for the Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defense.

Heiderscheidt led all scorers with 27 points and she pulled down six rebounds as the Indians advanced to the Section 2A, North Subsection girls’ basketball finals with a 64-52 victory over CM/C.

The Cougars ended their season at 18-7 while Sleepy Eye improved to 24-4.

The Cougars were led by Tayor Rose, who scored 18 points. Erica Bock scored 10.

CM/C had an early lead, but Sleepy Eye’s outside game was too much for the Cougars. Brianna Polesky hit a 3 to put the Indians up 21-16 and a Sarah Ibarra 3 made it 24-16. Ibarra hit another 3 just before halftime to push the Indians’ lead to 29-20 and they took a 31-20 lead into halftime.

From there, the Indians continued to build the lead. Heiderscheidt’s 3 gave her team a 42-28 cushion and another Polesky 3 made it 47-32. The Indians had a double-digit lead the entire second half and were never really tested during that stretch.

Polesky finished the game with 10 points and four steals and Ibarra had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
