Area Roundup: Wabasso girls get big conference win over St. Mary’s; CM/C boys dominate

Wabasso 82, SESM 71

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball contest.

Madison Guetter led Wabasso with 21 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Jenna Frank had 16 points and Gina Goblirsch scored 14 points and added four assists for the Rabbits.

Madison Mathiowetz led all scorers for Sleepy Eye with 25 points, Sydney Windschitl and Mallory Helget each had 15 points.

Wabasso (15-3, 10-2) will play Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (12-8, 8-4) in Fairfax on Monday. Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (16-4, 9-4) will host Sibley East on Monday.

Prep wrestling

Wabasso/RRC 70, Luverne 3

Fairmont/Martin County West 44, Wabasso/RRC 19

LAMBERTON — Wabasso/Red Rock Central went 1-1 on Thursday in triangular wrestling action, defeating Luverne 70-3 and falling to Fairmont/Martin County West 44-19.

Jared Schroepfer (160), Nick Altermatt (182), Derek Werner (195), Isaac Schmiesing (220) and Kyle Jacobson (Hvy) all went 2-0 for W/RRC.

Wabasso/RRC (15-5) will travel to Redwood River Valley on Thursday.

Prep boys’ hockey

Luverne 5, New Ulm 0

LUVERNE — Luverne blanked New Ulm on Thursday in a Big South boys’ hockey game.

The Eagles had 25 shots on goal while the Cardinals had 35 shots on goal. Jack Raymond had 30 saves for New Ulm.

New Ulm (11-9, 8-4) will play at Northfield on Monday.

Prep boys’ basketball

CM/C 81, Sleepy Eye 35

SLEEPY EYE — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey crushed Sleepy Eye 81-35 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Eli Samuelson had 21 points and five rebounds for CM/C, while Trey Peterson-Juhl added 17 points and five rebounds. Lewis Pendleton added 14 points, nine assists and four rebounds. Dylan Hillesheim had 11 points, five assists and five steals for the Cougars.

No stats were provided by Sleepy Eye.

CM/C (12-6, 7-4) is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday. Sleepy Eye (8-11, 4-7) is at Truman Friday.

Madelia 56,

Glenville-Emmons 44

MADELIA — Madelia toppled Glenville-Emmons 56-44 in nonconference boys’ basketball on Thursday.

Dain Uhde led Madelia with 15 points, while Logan Anderson added 14 and was 8 of 8 at the free throw line.

Madelia (1-17) hosts Heron Lake-Okabena Monday.
