NEW ULM — Hunter Ranweiler ran for three touchdowns and Connor Foley intercepted a tipped Peyton Collins pass as the New Um Eagles won their second straight game with a 34-26 win over Tri-City United Friday night at New Ulm High School.

Ranweiler ran for touchdowns of 8, 15 and 5 yards and added an eight-yard scoring pass to Luke Scheid. Jacob Beranek added an 18-yard touchdown run as the Eagles improved to 2-1.

“This was a heck of a win against a quality opponent,” New Um coach Corey Kneeshaw said. “This was a character game for this program right now. We did not know how we were going to respond to after we gave up two touchdowns right before halftime.”

New Ulm held a 7-0 lead on a Ranweiler 8-yard run on the Eagles’ opening drive of the game.

Ranweiler’s scamper capped an 11-play, 72-yard drive that had the Titans off-balance.

But late in the first half, TCU got on the board on a 5-yard pass from Collins to Zach Sexe with 49 seconds left in the first half.

On the Eagles’ first play after the TCU score, New Ulm fumbled on the Titans’ first play after the turnover. Collins then found Marty Kalina for a 37-yard touchdown just 13 seconds after their first touchdown. It was a score that saw TCU carry a 12-7 lead at halftime.

After both teams exchanged turnovers to start the third quarter, the Eagles marched 55 yards in nine plays for a touchdown with Ranweiler scooting in from 5 yards out.

But TCU came right back with an 80-yard, 10-play drive to take an 18-14 lead on a Collins’ 14-yard run. New Ulm got the lead right back on its next possession when Jacob Beranek fought his way for an 18-yard score to move New Ulm ahead 21-18 after three quarters.

A Collins touchdown pass to Sexe capped a 66-yard drive as TCU regained the lead at 26-21 with 7:46 left in the game.

But that was when the Eagles dominated.

Ranweiler fired an 8-yard scoring pass to Luke Scheid at the 6:33 mark.

Three plays later, Taylor Savoy picked off a Collins pass that set up a Ranweiler 5-yard run.

Down 34-26 late, Collins’ pass was picked off by Foley and New Ulm ran out the clock.
