MCC tops Springfield, GFW gets blanked

MCC 40, Springfield 20

SPRINGFIELD — Murray County Central defeated Springfield on Friday in Southwest District football game.

Decker Scheffler was 13-for-20 passing for 204 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers.

James Ploeger led Springfield defensively with three solo tackles, seven assists and four tackles for loss.

Springfield (0-2) will travel to Adrian on Friday.

Maple River 41, GFW 0

MAPLETON — Maple River defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday in a South Central Blue District football game.

For GFW, Jancarlo Munoz had 16 rushes for 126 yards for GFW and David Herrera had one reception for 11 yards.

GFW (0-2) will host Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Friday.

Madelia 28, Mankato Loyola 18

MADELIA — Madelia defeated Mankato Loyola on Friday in a 9-man South West District football game.

For Madelia, Logan Anderson had 34 carries for 188 and two touchdowns. Josh Sletta rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Sletta had a 52-yard kick-off return in the second half.

Madelia (1-1) will travel to Cleveland on Friday.

St. Mary’s 32, CM/C 20

MORGAN — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (2-0) held Cedar Mountain/Comfrey (0-2) scoreless in the first half as the Knights defeated the Cougars 32-20 in a 9-Man South District, Central Subdistrict football game Friday night.

Nick Labat was 2-of-4 with 50 yards and one touchdown under center for the Knights. Labat also led the Knights rushing attack with 129 yards on 17 attempts. Carter Currans had two receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown.

For the Cougars, Eli Samuelson was 9 for 23 with 126 yards and two touchdowns as the Cougars quarterback. Samuelson had 53 yards rushing from 12 attempts and Ben Shacher had 40 yards from 12 touches. Dylan Hillesheim had three receptions for 77 yards for the Cougars.

CM/C will travel to Hector on Friday to take on Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.

St. Mary’s will host Mankato Loyola on Friday.

Wabasso 39, YME 6

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Yellow Medicine East on Friday in a Southwest District football game.

Nick Altermatt was 8-for-10 passing for 101 yards and one touchdown pass. He also rushed nine times for 109 yards and one touchdown.

Kyle Jacobson rushed five times for 24 yards and a touchdown. Cooper Taylor rushed 12 times for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Colton Taylor had three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Wabasso (2-0) will host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Friday.
