Creighton Prep wins Upper Midwest Classic
NEW ULM — Creighton Prep of Omaha, Nebraska, repeated as the Upper Midwest Classic Tournament winner by defeating Chaska 6-3 Sunday at Johnson Park.
Dylan Phillips got the win scattering seven hits and fanning four.
Bruce Vosik belted a home run for Creighton.
Zack Nelson took the loss for Chaska.
Both teams got to the 2017 championship games with wins earlier in the day.
Chaska defeated Eastview 6-1, behind the pitching of Jacob Goraczkowski.
He fanned four and allowed just four hits.
Zack Kadlec took the loss for Eastview.
Goraczkowski also had two hits.
Creighton used the right arm of future Minnesota Gopher pitcher Josh Culliver to blank Waconia 6-0 in the first game of the day.
This was Creighton’s fifth Upper Midwest Classic championship.
