Stand behind bus driver instead of bully

To the editor: I agree with Marlin Huiras’s letter (“Kid on bus should be the one punished,” Dec. 23, 2022) - that the student that did the tripping should be punished and not the bus driver. Years ago my son bullied a younger boy on the bus and got booted off for a week, so I had to drive him to school that week and scolded him every mile, believe me. Talk about karma — in later years my son looked for work in Redwood Falls. He applied at Hoffco. Guess who was in charge of hiring? Yes, the kid who was bullied and guess who didn’t get the job? Thank your for Vietnam Memorial

To the editor: I attended the dedication of the New Ulm Vietnam Veterans Memorial in October; it has taken time for the feelings of that day to settle in. The dedication was a profound moment in time for six families, where the shackles of sadness from a haunting war, were finally loosened. Our Vietnam Veterans traveled near and far to attend the dedication at a filled-to-capacity amphitheater in German Park. Kid on bus should be the one punished

To the editor: I was very disappointed when I read the article in the Journal a few weeks ago about the Sleepy Eye School bus driver being charged with malicious punishment of a child and 5th degree assault. The incident involved a kid on the bus tripping other kids on the bus and not stopping or changing his behavior when the bus driver told him to stop. When he didn’t this “child” of a football player should have been told to get off the bus. But, instead the driver only pushed his legs out of the aisle so he could not trip any more kids and put his hands on the kid’s ...

To the editor: The week of December 3/4, Matt Tiabbi, formerly with Rolling Stone, with the approval of new Twitter owner Elon Musk, released the “Twitter Papers.” They confirmed that what some of what Twitter outright censored was at the urging of political campaigns and government. The First Amendment prevents government restrictions on free speech. Government, however, did not hesitate to lobby to suppress what it deemed objectionable. And they often did. Community thank you

To the editor: It’s a wrap. The 34th New Ulm Community Thanksgiving Dinner wrapped up with one of the largest attendance ever. Our count showed that we served just over 1,200 meals this year. With 600 dining, the rest were in take outs and home deliveries. We ran out of pie and corn and had a little extra in potatoes, stuffing and cranberries this year. Our donations met our expenses this year and we are always relieved when that happens. We want to be sure to thank all the volunteers who step up every year to make this event possible.
