Scouting for Food Saturday

To the editor: This Saturday, March 18, Troop 25 Boy Scouts will be collecting non-perishable food items for the “Scouting for Food” service project. Please set donations out by 9 a.m. The Scouts and theier driver parents will be scouring the town to pick up your donations and bring them to the New Ulm Food Shelf. Among the finest couples to tackle the job of New Ulm Mayor, Bob Beussman and First Lady Cheryl dedicated countless hours over the years to promoting and advocating for the community of New Ulm. To the editor: An excellent education is extremely important, and ideally provided by parents, teachers and life experiences. Formal “education” is the responsibility of public, and private schools. Public schools, funded by public monies, are tasked with providing ALL students, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, etc. with a comprehensive education. Questions for the superintendent

To the editor: I read with interest the article on March 2 about the school board interviewing for a new District 88 superintendent. Here in Minnesota it was just reported that 19 elementary and high schools did not have one student test proficient in 2022 on a math standardized test. At the start of the 2022 school year, fewer than half of Minnesota students statewide are proficient in math (44.6%) and just under 50% can’t read at grade level. We don’t want New Ulm to be in those negative numbers. We need leaders from the superintendent on down to be concerned about teaching the ...
