$10 million to surrender a state park

To the editor: DNR officials certainly do appear dazed and confused when fielding questions about the proposed Upper Sioux Agency State Park transfer. These government employees expect taxpayers to spend over $10 million dollars so the DNR can demolish historic buildings dating to the 19th century, crush outbuildings paid for with public funds within recent years and forget what the Upper Sioux Agency State Park holds – a vast history – visited by more than 30,000 yearly. Visualize a crumpled-up piece of paper (or a bowl of primordial soup) in a spot where everyone on earth could observe it. Not the first time

To the editor: I was happy to see in Saturday’s Journal that NUHS is bringing back “The Man Who Came to Dinner” for it’s spring play. As a student director, Josie Ringhofer has taken on a daunting task, but she is a remarkably talented young woman, and I’m sure this will be a great production. The article poses the question of whether the school has ever put on this play before, and it most definitely did. More money, less regulations

To the editor: This letter is about House File 908 and Senate file 1621, which I have read in their entirety. Some back ground: I am a retired nurse/retired library director. My mother, father, stepfather and a brother all spent time in nursing homes. They all received excellent, compassionate care, often above and beyond any call of duty. The workers in every area are overworked, underpaid and certainly unappreciated. My mother, stepfather, husband and self all had benefits we would not have had without our unions so I am not anti-union. I am very much against these revisions. ...

To the editor: On March 20th, Ted Lasso and crew visited the White House with a purpose to highlight Mental Health. The fictional character once said, “I do love a locker room. It smells like potential.” No matter your political side, it can feel as though Washington has the stench of a locker room but there is in fact potential with mental health advocacy and support being one area we can work together towards something constructive. To the editor: On March 29 we observe Vietnam War Veterans Day. President Barak Obama proclaimed it, in 2012, and President Donald Trump later signed legislation to establish it, in 2017. Approximately 2,710,000 American service men and women served in the Vietnam theater and approximately 58,220 died because of it. In terms of American war dead in America’s conflicts, the Vietnam war was the 4th costliest, with the Civil War, World War II and the 1st World War being greater.
