Invasive Species Awareness Week

To the editor: Why should we care that this week, Feb. 20-26, is National Invasive Species Awareness Week? The big reason is money. Invasive species cost money. The big one for our area will be the loss of our beautiful ash trees. There are omninous signs — increased woodpecker activity and the loss of bark. Once the bark is gone you can see all the burrowing that has been done by the larval stage of the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle. Another sign of impending doom is the fact that many cities are changing their management plans — trees are dying so quickly and in such large numbers ...

Bring home the MN National Guard

To the editor: Governor, why do we have our Minnesota National Guard in Kuwait? Biden pulled our troops out of Iraq in a super rush so why is the U.S. still scattered about that region to do what? Does the Guard provide security for the oil supply and flow of the oil, kill terrorists and their bosses, work with special ops? Just what is their assignment over there? We have a military called the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marines, whose job it is to work overseas on various operations. To the editor: The Jan 9, 2023 Salena Zito column ‘New generation of Catholics discovers Latin Mass 60 years after Vatican II’, described the Latin Mass as rich, mysterious, strictly arranged, Gregorian chants and periods of profound silence play out while plumes of incense float through the nave. “The priest conducts the Mass with his back to the congregation. He’s facing the Eucharist — Body and Blood of Christ himself and the central act of Christian worship.” Not mentioned was the way everybody received Holy Communion. To the editor: How is it that recently-elected Congressman George Santos can totally lie on his resume regarding everything about his life from his family’s background, his education, his work history, everything, and yet be accepted as a lawmaker in D.C.? Every word he utters to reporters continues to be lies. In the real world, lying on a resume was cause for immediate firing while some companies would also prosecute for fraud. Medicare should cover Alzheimer’s treatment

To the editor: As the year new year begins, I want to thank the Gibbon area community, our family and friends for supporting Team Gibbon in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraising for 2022. With the support, our team raised over $30,000 and brought much awareness to Alzheimer’s through our Music for Memories concert featuring Jay Allen. The journey continues and we continue to fundraise to support those living with this terrible disease. But now we need help to advocate for those living with this disease. To the editor: I hope all of you who voted for Democrats in the last election are proud of what you’re putting into power in Minnesota. Families are struggling to pay for groceries but hey! At least we’ll have legalized marijuana! Here are a few of the other items on the DFL wish list: Pre-registering 16-year-olds to vote and rewarding those here illegally with state drivers licenses.
