Sanity no longer exists in America

To the editor: All three branches of our government are so corrupt and totally uncaring about our own people. We are just a number to provide the monies for the Feds to throw away to the dictators, then making ridiculous deals with them to endure our national security. Congress chaos goes beyond a disgrace and in a few months another debate about the government shutdown mess. The dictators truly love this dysfunctional U.S. mess as it plays right into their hands for they to control even more than they already do. China knows more about every aspect of the U.S. from the Feds, ...

On independent scholars

To the editor: Three weeks ago, Chris Loetscher looked askance at Curt Dahlin’s title of “Independent historian.” Within the academic community, such writers often merit high esteem. The late Alan Woolworth, an eclectic academic, thoroughly researched the Dakota people and personally returned Little Crow’s remains to them. As I recall, at the 2011 Northern Great Plains History Conference, his name tag said independent scholar. Franklin’s Jerry Weldy also engages in area history, to include leading tours of the Birch Coulee Battlefield. Curt Dahlin has collaborated with the ...

A response to Republicans and abortion issue

To the editor: This is a response to the editorial “Republicans can’t do anything about the abortion issue.” The editorial begins, “Republicans don’t know how to “talk about abortion.” I beg to differ that republicans don’t know how to talk about abortion. We just talk about it differently than the left and for different reasons. They use the words abortion rights or reproductive rights. Why? Because for them the issue is “right” driven. What gives anyone the right to kill another person. We use the words prolife. Why? Because we believe it is a person from ...

Anti-fossil fuel folks will boost climate warming

To the editor: The Nov. 3,  ‘MIT trains students to resolve clean energy conflicts’ said: “Curbing climate change — and extreme weather for future generations — depends squarely on society’s ability to rapidly build new clean energy infrastructure…” It’s highly likely that new infrastructure will only exacerbate the problem because phasing out coal fired power plants and requiring low sulfur fuel to be burned  in ocean-going ships is actually contributing to global warming.  The April 2014 issue of Scientific American said reducing the particles ejected into ...

Tearing down, removing ‘history’

To the editor: In regard to the to the article by Randy Krzmarzick in the Nov. 4-5, 2023, New Ulm Journal, I feel a rebuttal is needed. I attended the event. My earliest ancestor a French-Canadian, came to this area of Minnesota 200 years ago as an aide to the fur trade. As was the custom of the day he married into the Dakota tribe he worked most closely with. He died in 1856, His family, especially two sons and a daughter were very involved in the events of area. His son and family lived in the area near present day Morton on the north side of the river. On the morning of the 1862 ...

More government funding, research vital to find cure for Alzheimer’s disease

To the editor: November is Family Caregivers Month. Did you know that over 11 million Americans provide unpaid care of people with Alzheimer’s and other Dementias? According to the Alzheimer’s Association’s Facts and Figures, caregivers provide more than 18 billion hours valued at nearly $340 Billion. Alzheimer’s disease is a devastating condition that affects millions of Americans, both directly and indirectly, by placing an enormous emotional and financial burden on individuals and families. This is particularly hard for those of us who live in Greater Minnesota where ...
