Grateful for Ulm’s Gemütlichkeit

Hallo, from Ulm! It has been an exciting month here, especially while celebrating Schwörmontag, an annual tradition dating back to 1345. The weeklong festival commenced on Saturday night with the enchanting Lichterserenade (Serenade of Lights), during which more than 8,000 lanterns were set afloat on the Danube River. Then, on Monday, the mayor addressed the city, providing an update on past accomplishments and outlining goals for the year ahead. To the editor: There has been a lot of talk about white privilege lately. That might have been true down south 50 to 60 years ago. But the only privilege I can see today is Democrat privilege. The Washington, D.C. elite are completely out of touch with the plight of common men and women who make this country strong. I think it’s safe to say that this is not your father’s Democratic party. To the editor: Congratulations to the city of Grand Forks and to the Air Force base for stopping China in their quest to take over some farmland and create a corn plant, all at a cost of $700 million. Thank you Grand Forks for not putting the greed of money ahead of national security as China continues it attempts at amassing U.S. land near sensitive communication centers and all for long-term and dangerous. To the editor: As I sit back and look at the comments of criticism and support of the letter that Jan Platz wrote and the one that I wrote previously, I want to express my feelings about these subjects. Jan’s letter was to the point, listing what is happening in our world and to our country today. When you look at what she addressed, we need to reflect on where our country is headed. To the editor: Several months ago, I wrote an editorial about the Minnesota department of health statistics on abortion and the latest legislative changes affecting life decisions. I indicated that women should be allowed to have all the information available to them about their baby in their uterus because then they could make good choices. I also stated that they do need support and that support is available. I have often heard the comment that people who believe in life only care about the baby, but that is not true. Snake in the grass

To the editor: You wouldn’t think it would ever come to this, but it has. “Abortion” has become a huge topic of discussion in our country. Along with killing a baby right up to the “due date”, we now have the over-the-counter birth control pill approved by the FDA with no age restrictions or doctors’ involvement. In retrospect, we should be providing education on the anatomy of the human body and it’s function, to teenagers, parents and possibly young grandparents, concerning this ongoing health epidemic called pregnancy.
