Who is more evil?

Dear Editor: Whenever anyone thinks MAGA people are evil, compare them to those who stand behind a candidate with placards cheering the right to kill their own babies. Germaine Rysdah New Ulm

Appreciation for new ‘May Use Full Lane’ bicycle signs

To the editor: As community members who enjoy bicycling and work as volunteers to help make it easier and safer for everyone to bicycle or walk in our community, we wanted to pass along our appreciation to the City of New Ulm for the recent addition of the “May Use Full Lane” bicycle signs around town. The signs are a simple reminder to drivers and bicyclists to share the road and replace the “narrow” markings that the city began painting on the city streets in 2016 to help guide bicyclists on streets without bike lanes. The routes with signs are popular for people bicycling in ...

The need for economic democracy

To the editor: Our nation’s political democracy is being chipped away because of a lack of economic democracy. Politicians blame the President, the young people, the LGBTQ+ community, the immigrants, and those on welfare and handouts for all of our problems. Never once has the blame been placed on the corporations and the for-profit management style that disregards people. It’s a rule that companies do everything in their power to minimize labor costs. But who benefits from that? Not the workers, not the vast majority of the American people. If we want America and the American ...

Xcel Energy shuts down Sherburne County Unit 2 coal unit as grid reliability worsens

To the editor: The shutting down of coal, gas and nuclear power plants here in Minnesota and across the country are putting the citizens in future danger, especially with weather like we are experiencing. It’s become obvious after many years of experience that the solar panels and windmills cannot replace or meet current demands for electrical power that industries, businesses and residents require. We need to go back to a little over eight years ago when then President Obama committed the United States to “unprecedented action against climate change” with sweeping new curbs ...

Investigate before installing deer crossings

To the editor: I read the Jan. 11 issue of The Journal with special interest in the new Highway 14 story. Near the end of the article I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Reference was made to the DNR/MnDOT project to install a single 10x8 (or10x9, but who cares?) foot box culvert instead of four 42-inch culvert pipes near Claremont. The extra cost was only $90,000. Minuscule in comparison to the $108,000,000 project, but again who really cares? The intent was to reduce deer crashes in the area by providing deer a more convenient way to cross the road. Why deer choose to cross roads ...

Killing babies

To the editor: On Oct. 7, 2023, Hammas attacked Israel and murdered 1,200 people and took hostages, they raped women, killed babies, mothers, fathers anybody they could, as many as they could, took over 200 hostages and Israel declared war on Hammas. Netanyahu said he wants to wipe evil Hammas off the face of the earth. We have more people demonstrating in America that support Hammas than Israel. President Joe Biden says he supports Israel, but now doesn’t support Israel as much and wants Netanyahu to have a cease fire and Netanyahu says “no” we need to get rid of Hammas once ...
