Comparing elections in Europe to the US
To the editor:
My wife and I recently spent two weeks in Europe. Here are a few observations from that trip: We visited Denmark, Germany and Austria, and passed through the mountains in Slovenia and Italy as well. Much like farmers in my area near Lafayette, record rainfalls have plagued Europe as well. Small grains have fared the best, as they were planted early. The corn crop is yellow and sick from loss of nitrogen. Soybeans are looking better, except for drown out areas similar to my farm.
We were saddened (but not surprised) to learn of the assassination attempt on President Trump during our trip. I actually predicted it would happen months ago. I think we will experience the wildest, wackiest campaign ever seen in 2024. I believe another assassination attempt against Trump is likely as the Left wants him dead. Trump is an easy target since he speaks to huge crowds, and gets right in with the people and shakes hands. It is clear the American people love him. Trump should fire the Secret Service and bill the US government for his own security forces. Biden speaks in front of cameras, lights, and a few supporters (usually in basements). There are no sloped roofs in basements either. I also believe there will be another “pandemic” type event that will “force” us to vote en masse by mail. Take your wildest guess at what that event will be, but it’ll happen.
I do not believe Biden will be (or ever really was) the Democratic candidate coming out of their Convention. Who the Democrats WILL nominate, is anybody’s guess, but will need to either be a “YES” person (like Biden), or related to either Obama or the Clintons. Everybody in Europe believes Biden is suffering from dementia. I think one of our host families in Austria said it best when they said “Over 300 million people in the United States, and this is the best they can do?”. Biden isn’t capable of being our president right now (he never was), much less for another 4 years, and they know it.
Austria has the best election system we talked about. In Austria, they send out election certificates to registered voters a month before the election. Voters are allowed to vote with both the certificate and a photo ID or passport. Everybody in Austria has a passport, even children. Didn’t get a certificate in the mail? It is your responsibility to go to government offices to get your certificate before the election. No same day registration allowed. No ballot harvesting. Simple, straight forward, no nonsense, no fraud. If people think their vote is important, they make the effort.
The Presidential election in the United States will come down to this: Can they cheat enough to defeat a sea of support for Donald J Trump?
