Vote yes to continue ISD 88 levy

To the editor:

Strong communities start with strong schools, and in November residents of District 88 can show their support for New Ulm by voting YES for the continuation of the ISD 88 operational levy approved by voters in 2012.

Voting YES on this referendum does not mean you are signing up for an increase to your taxes. It is a continuation of an existing tax that provides $1.8 million in operational funding annually. If the levy does not pass this year, it will mean a reduction of 5.9% in the district’s operational budget. The funds have been, and will continue to be, used to support activities that benefit all three schools in the New Ulm area. Some examples include special education, co-op sports like hockey, soccer and wrestling, as well as counseling services.

For more information about what the operational levy funds are used for, visit newulmreferendum.org. If you would like to be involved in promoting information about the levy, a Vote Yes committee has been formed and opportunities for involvement can be found on the Friends of ISD 88 Facebook page.

The referendum question will be located on the back side of your ballot. By voting YES you will be helping to ensure that New Ulm Schools continue to have small class sizes, college prep courses, career and technical education classes, and cooperative extracurricular activities.

In November, please remember to flip your ballot over and vote YES for New Ulm schools.
