Remembering George Glotzbach

To the editor:

New Ulm lost a beloved son and the Heart of New Ulm Project lost a dedicated advocate in the passing of George Glotzbach on Sept. 15. He was one of the many champions for the project. He was always there to help advocate or persuade key city leaders of the need for positive change to support healthy lifestyles for all residents. He was one of the driving forces behind making the streets of New Ulm safer for people who like to bicycle (he counseled me never to use biking as people often thought of motorcycles instead) and or walk. He even wrote a song about the Heart of New Ulm Project which he shared with the HONU team (sadly I don’t have a copy of it) and he created a “New Ulm Food Pyramid” — a photo of which you can see on the Heart of New Ulm’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HeartOfNewUlm) He was immensely proud when the City of New Ulm was recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community, something he and others had been working on for years, and he donated the first bike fix it station in New Ulm. George will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on with the many contributions you see throughout the community when out for a bike ride or a walk in New Ulm. Thank you, George!
