Al loved his family and was fiercely dedicated to them. He is survived by his sister, Patty (Mike) Filzen and brothers, Robert “Rob” Fischer and Gary (Sarah) Fischer, all of New Ulm; nieces and nephews, Samantha (Eric Ludwig) Filzen, Kya Fischer, Kira (Steve) Knutson, Travis (Mawrgyn Roper) Filzen, Joshua (Heidi) Bohnen-Fischer, Micah Haler; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Al spent his life in New Ulm, where he started his education in a one-room country school near Klossner and finished at New Ulm public schools. He was a dedicated employee who spent his work career driving fork truck at Steel Drum, Crysteel Manufacturing and Kraft-Heinz. Al was thoughtful and meticulous in everything he did. His solid work ethic allowed him to create a life where he looked forward to retirement within the next year when he could spend all of his time on his passions.

Al loved being in nature and on the water. You could often find him wading the shores of the local lakes catching his limit, canoeing the local rivers, riding bicycle, hiking the woods in search of morels, hunting, or just outside in the back yard grilling a steak or the day’s catch and enjoying cold beers. Even winters didn’t keep Al indoors. If he wasn’t on the lake ice fishing or grilling outside despite the snow, he’d be in the garage setting up tackle or hanging out. Al’s passing leaves a hole in the family. He is greatly missed and loved, but now he’s fishing with his Dad, Mom, and doberman Clyde on the lakes of heaven until we see them all again.
