Ronald L. Thompson

NEW ULM — Ronald L. Thompson, age 87, of New Ulm passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at the New Ulm Medical Center.

Funeral mass will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery – Soldiers Rest Section with military honors provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 11:00 – 12:30 Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH chapel.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Lori (Byron) Collins, Michael Thompson, Jon (Sue) Thompson, Janet Leske, Jane Thompson; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and his brother, Ray (Carol) Thompson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 grandchild; sisters, Viola (Bob) Downs, Harriet (Bud) Schulte, Dorothy (Clarence) Sather and his brother, Dale Thompson.

Ronald L. Thompson was born December 24, 1933 in Franklin, MN to John and Ina (Saxton) Thompson. He graduated from Morton High School. After school Ronald enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and he was honorably discharged in 1954. After his time in the military Ronald started working for Kraft Foods in New Ulm in the fall of 1955 in the maintenance department. On April 23, 1957 Ronald was united in marriage to Dorothy Wagner in Redwood Falls. After more than 30 years of service Ronald retired from Kraft in November of 1989. After his retirement he enjoyed spending his time on his country home loving nature and taking care of the place. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping and being with his family especially his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He moved to New Ulm in the fall of 2015 and really enjoyed living in town until he was diagnosed with dementia in 2018 and was moved to Prairie Senior Cottages. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the American Legion and DAV. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
