Lois Fleck

NEW ULM — Lois Fleck, age 92, of New Ulm, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis surrounded by family.

Lois Theresa Metzen was born March 8, 1927 at Union Hospital in New Ulm, the only child of William M. and Lillian A. (Furth) Metzen. She grew up on a small farm two miles south of downtown New Ulm and graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1945. Upon graduation, Lois worked as a legal secretary for a local lawyer and later for the Brown County Clerk of Court. On Feb. 11, 1947 Lois was united in marriage to Bernard Frank Fleck at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Together, they raised three children while farming in Milford Township near Essig for the next 30 years. In 1977, they retired and moved to New Ulm. They wintered in Arizona for many years before permanently moving to Springfield, MO. Upon her husband’s passing after 56 years of marriage, Lois moved back to New Ulm to be near family.

Lois was a kind, soft-spoken woman who loved flower gardening, playing cards, reading, dancing, golfing, and traveling with her husband throughout the United States.

Lois is survived by her son Anthony (Lisa) Fleck; grandchildren Travis (Renee) Fleck of Lakeville, Dustin (Jenna) Fleck of New Ulm, Trevor (Autumn) Fleck of Apex, NC, Brett (Jill) Fleck of Phoenix, AZ, and Becca Fleck of Hutchinson; six great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Gerald (Gretchen) Fleck of Plainview.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Lillian Metzen; husband Bernard; daughter Kathleen C. Kersting, son Steven W. Fleck; grandchild Jeremy J. Kersting; sister in law Carolyn (Joseph) Bose and brother in law Leo (Colleen) Fleck.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – North Chapel in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
