Marian Jeanette Petterson

LAKE CRYSTAL — Marian Jeanette Petterson, age 83, of rural Lake Crystal, MN died on June 2, 2019 at the Madelia Community Hospital.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel and will continue on Thursday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church-Lake Crystal.

Service will be held at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church-Lake Crystal, on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 10:30 am.

The clergy will be Pastor Salim Kaderbhai. Interment will be at the Lincoln Cemetery in rural Madelia.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia. On line condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Marian was born February 6, 1936 to Joseph and Loretta (Berdan) Traurig on a farm in Lafayette Township in Nicollet County. She attended school at Dist. 53 a country school near the farm, and later attended St. George and Holy Trinity in New Ulm. She graduated from Holy Trinity in 1954. Marian went to nursing school (Chicago School of Nursing) in New Ulm. Later, she worked on the OB floor of the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm, until her marriage to LaVern Petterson on October 31,1956. She worked part time at the Madelia Hospital for 6 years and then became a full-time farm wife and caretaker of her mother-in-law for 34 years. Marian and LaVern had two sons, Leon and Thomas. Marian was an adult leader for 4-H for many years. She also served as a Deacon at Faith Lutheran Church for 9 years. Marian loved outings and spending time with her friends and family. She will be remembered as always having an open door and open arms to those in need. Her favorite Bible verse was “so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31. Blessed be her memory.

Marian is survived by two sons, Leon Petterson of Madison Lake, Thomas (Tammy) Petterson of Lake Crystal; four grandchildren, Dan (Lygia) Petterson, Nicole (Paul) Lohre, Adam (Carly) Petterson, Donald Petterson; four great-grandchildren, Haley Petterson, Alyssa Petterson, Ethan Lohre and Izaac Lohre; three nieces, Pat (Bill) Becker, Nancy (Patrick) Sonnek and DeDee (David) Germain. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LaVern Petterson; brother, James Traurig; sister, Arlene Gerardy, and brother-in-law, Bud Gerardy.
