Sheriff’s Office

• Responded with Sleepy Eye Police to weekend and Monday reports of several loose longhorn beef steers seen in Home Cemetery, Allison Park and near Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary, near the southeast corner of the Sleepy Eye Lake Trail. Sleepy Eye Police and deputies closed the trail for a couple hours Monday. The longhorns were rounded up on a trailer with hay and corn. The owner, Neal Mangen, said the cattle jumped a fence at his farm. No injuries were reported. The only reported damage was trampled corn near the lake trail. A report was done for documentation.

• Responded to a domestic call in Comfrey at 10:18 p.m. Saturday. A 38-year-old Eagle Lake woman, was reported to be subject to a no contact order for protection with children, took a car, damaged a garage door and broke vehicle windows. The woman was transported to the New Ulm Medical Center, mental health unit, then transferred to another mental health unit with available beds. A damage estimate was not available. No injuries were reported. A report for a an OFP violation and misdemeanor domestic assault went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.

New Ulm Police

• Responded to a two-vehicle crash without injuries at 6th North Street and Broadway at 3:24 p.m. Saturday. A 2010 Ford Fusion driven by Kelsey Marie Grosam, New Ulm was stopped at 6th North, waiting to continue westbound when she collided with a 2024 GMC KX4 driven by Alfred Franklin Furth, 48, Sioux Falls, S.D. who was northbound on Broadway. Damage was moderate to both vehicles.

• Responded to a one-vehicle crash at 14th North and Broadway at 8:50 p.m. Saturday. Keith Allan Block, 66, New Ulm, was driving a 2007 Mercury Milan southbound on Broadway, tried to pass a vehicle, swerved over the median, hit a do not enter sign and spun out in the northbound traffic lanes on Broadway. Block had suspected minor injuries. Damage was moderate-disabling to the undercarriage of the Mercury.

• Received a vandalism report at Rader’s Towing on Front St. N. at 2:57 p.m. Saturday. A tow truck window was reported broken. Damage was estimated at $300. A report was done for documentation.

•Responded to a domestic report at 12:32 a.m. Saturday on the 900 block, Franklin St. N. A 29-year-old New Ulm man reported a minor injury but did not seek medical attention. A 29-year-old New Ulm woman did not report any injuries. No damage reported. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.

• Received a theft report of a gaming headset valued at $532 at Walmart at 1:20 p.m. Monday. Police are waiting for photos to post to their Facebook site. A report was done for documentation.

State Patrol

• Responded to a two-vehicle crash on TH 60 at 650th Ave., Butterfield township, Watonwan County at 2:48 p.m. Monday. A 2025 Peterbilt semi driven by Todd Michael Hammerschmidt, 51, Sleepy Eye, was southbound on 650th Ave. when it collided with a 2024 International semi driven westbound on TH 60 by Summer Lynn Miller, 29, Tony, Wi. Miller was transported to St. James Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Hammerschmidt was not injured. Both drivers wore seat belts. Alcohol was not involved. The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office, Butterfield Fire Dept. and Mountain Lake Ambulance assisted.
