Brown County Sheriff’s Office

• Responded to a juvenile trouble call involving a 14-year-old boy and his mother on Broadway in Hanska at 2:27 p.m. Sunday. Nobody was hurt, no damage was reported. A report was sent to Brown County Human Services.

• Responded to an SUV-deer crash without injuries near the corner of CR 16 and CR 24, Burnstown Township at 7:08 p.m. Saturday. Karen and Gordon Lorenzen, 81 and 78 respectively of Sleepy Eye were in a 2021 Kia Sportage. The driver was not listed in the report. The vehicle was drive-able after the crash.

New Ulm Police

• Responded to a one-vehicle crash without injuries at 1612 S. Broadway at 2:30 pm. Oct. 7. Sandra J. Zeidler, 74, New Ulm said she didn’t see a boulevard pole next to a light pole and hit it while turning out of a lot. Damage was minor to a Chevy Equinox. She wore a seat belt.

• Received a suspicious activity report at German Heights Townhomes, 421 15th St. S. at 9:01 p.m. Sunday. A resident reported pry marks on a door frame and the door was open but nothing was removed missing. A report was done for documentation.

• Responded to a welfare check call on Highland Ave. N. at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. A 36-year-old New Ulm man was transported by police to New Ulm Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. A report was sent to Brown County Human Services.

• Responded to a miscellaneous public assist call on N. Broadway at 2:23 a.m. Sunday. An 80-year-old New Ulm man was found to be living in filth and transported to New Ulm Medical center. A report was sent to Brown County Human Services.

St. James Police

• Responded with the St. James Fire and Ambulance to a reported anhydrous ammonia leak in the Smithfield Foods building at 8:47 p.m. Oct. 8. Firefighters monitored ammonia levels in the northeast side of town and found them to be at low levels. Neighboring houses were not forced to be evacuated but some individuals left residences on their own.

Smithfield hazardous materials team members responded to the scene and shut off the leak in the building shortly after it was reported. Ammonia levels were reported at minimum levels in the building. No injuries were reported at the time.
