New Ulm Police

• Received a report of a theft of a Biden sign from a home on Second North Street at 4:10 p.m. Monday. The sign was valued at $30.

• Received a report of suspicious activity at North Front Street at 6:36 p.m. Monday. A 59-year-old Sleepy Eye man was reported to be throwing clothes from a vehicle he was driving. Police determined he was having mental issues and transported him to New Ulm Medical Center. Brown County Probation issued an arrest and detention order, and police arrested him at 5:46 a.m. and took him to jail.

• Received a report of a dispute between neighbors in the 900 block of South Broadway at 9:37 p.m. Monday. One of the neighbors was advised to seek a restraining order against the suspect, a 72-year-old New Ulm man.

• Received a report of a bicycle theft at Martin Luther College at 3:14 p.m. Wednesday. A Trek mountain bike was taken sometime in the last few days after a lock was cut through. The estimated value of the bike is $200.

• Responded to suspicious activity at the 500 block of North Front Street. A homeless man, 59, was under the influence of a controlled substance and experiencing mental health issues. The individual was throwing items out of his car onto a boulevard. The individual was taken to New Um Medical Center for evaluation and later taken to Brown Count Evaluation.

• Issued citations for 23 violations of the city’s blight ordinance on Monday and Tuesday. The violations were reported on Broadway, Washington, Garden and Valley Streets. New Ulm Police are stepping up enforcement of blight violation before winter. New Ulm’s blight ordinance falls under Chapter 8 of the City Code, Sections 8.04 and 8.63. In general the ordinance applies to the unlawful deposit of garbage, litter, junk cars or building materials stored on public or private property.
