Organ recital Friday at Cathedral

NEW UM — All are welcome to attend an organ concert on Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.. at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Sean Connolly, the Music Director at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, will be the guest organist.

The program will include music by Josef Rheinberger, Lefebure-Wely, and Orlando Gibbons.

Minnesota Valley Civil War Round Table to discuss First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry

NEW ULM — Local historian Denis Warta will present “The First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry at Gettysburg” at the Minnesota Valley Civil War Round Table at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the New Ulm Public Library.

The Minnesota Valley Civil War Round Table series is presented the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at New Ulm Public Library and is free and open to the public.

Hard Hat Tour for Emerson Union Thursday

NEW ULM — A Hard Hat Tour will showcase the conversion of the former New Ulm Middle School building into apartments on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be a presentation at 3:30 p.m.

The building was originally constructed in 1915, with additions in 1939 and 1956. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

The City of New Ulm and community partners have been working with nonprofit developer Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDC) since 2016 on plans to convert the building to workforce housing.

The $15 million project will preserve historic elements of the site, including original windows, chalkboards, built-in cabinetry, and more.
