Drug task force seizes cocaine, arrest three

Three men face felony drug charges

NEW ULM — Three men were arrested in New Ulm early Tuesday morning in which a significant amount of cocaine was found by the Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renville Drug Task Force at a New Ulm residence on Sunrise Drive.

According to the complaint, police were informed a large amount of cocaine was in Jeremy Lee Ibarra’s residence and that a suspect vehicle just left his residence. A vehicle stopped by police was recognized as being owned by Alfonzo Cruz of Fairfax.

Also according to the complaint, officers noticed a black Dodge Durango was occasionally stopping at Ibarra’s residence. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified Aurelia Gomez of Denison, Texas, as the driver and Cruz as a passenger.

The complaint also revealed Gomez and Cruz were told to exit the vehicle. During a struggle, Cruz dropped a small bag of a white, powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. Both men were arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail.

While searching the vehicle , officers found multiple unused baggies in a passenger door and a cell phone in a backpack plus a large baggie with a significant amount of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. The substance weighed about 469 grams (1.03 pounds).

According to the complaint, officers searched Ibarra’s residence and found drug paraphernalia including a black digital scale with white residue, a baggie with a white powdery substance and a multi-colored scale with white residue.

The total weight of suspected cocaine was 9.36 grams including packaging. An unknown white powdery substance weighed 1.33 grams.

Gomez, 60, and Cruz 30, were arrested for felony first-degree drug sale and felony first-degree drug possession charges. Cruz also faces a felony fifth-degree drug possession charge. Ibarra faces felony third-degree narcotic sale, felony fifth-degree drug possession and gross misdemeanor child endangerment charges.

Cruz and Gomez’ bail was set at $200,000 without conditions, $75,000 with conditions. Ibarra’s bail was set at $50,000 without conditions, $20,000 with conditions.

Hearings for Gomez and Ibarra were set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21 and 9 a.m. Nov. 6 for Cruz.
