Two more candidates jump into school board race
There will be a new New Ulm School Board member.
Four seats are up for election this cycle. Incumbent Denny Waloch did not file before races closed at 5 p.m. today. Two fresh faces did make it just in time.
Sarah Leslie and Paula Humbard will be looking to join the board.
Paula Humbard jumped in during the final hour. She could not be reached for comment before the deadline.
Sarah Leslie said she chose to run because she saw a gap that needed to be filled.
“I saw there was a need,” she said. “I have been involved with various district efforts like the curriculum committee. I am an alumni and I have two kids in the district as well. I wanted to throw my hat in.”
Leslie said if elected, she hopes to aid in steering New Ulm Public Schools in the right direction.
“Continuing the work the district is doing to create good citizens who are ready for secondary school or work, whatever else their path may be,” she said.
These two will go up against Christie Dewanz, Matt Ringhofer, and Jonathan Schiro who filed to try and keep their seats. In the general election the four candidates with the most votes will be selected for school board.
