Drug Task Force makes Valentine’s Day bust

NEW ULM — A 62-year-old New Ulm woman faces four felony drug charges after the Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renville Drug Task Force (BLRR DTF) executed a search warrant in New Ulm on Valentine’s Day.

Charges filed against Cheri L. Ehret, 600 block, State Street North Feb. 16 include felony 1st degree drug sale- 17 grams or more meth in 90 days, 1st-degree drug possession 50 grams or more meth, 2nd degree drug sale 10 grams or more narcotic in 90 days and 2nd degree drug possession 25 grams or more meth. Bail was set at $100,000 without conditions, $50,000 with conditions. A hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28.

According to court documents, the task force learned controlled substances were being used and sold from a residence on the 600 block of State Street North owned by Ehret. The residence is in a school zone, located directly across the street from Cathedral High School and St. Anthony’s Elementary School.

At 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement agents, including New Ulm K9 officer Andrew Kuester and his K9 partner Hank, walked through the residence. Items found in an upstairs bedroom included six baggies with a clear, crystalline substance recognized and field tested as methamphetamine. Also found upstairs were pills in a non-labeled prescription pill bottle. Pills included Oxycodone Hydrochloride.

Items found in the basement included four glass water bongs and a meth pipe that field-tested positive for meth residue, many small, round unused silicone containers commonly used with controlled substances, a notebook with unknown names, a scale that tested positive for meth residue, baggies field-tested positive for THC, many packaged baggies that field-tested positive for meth.

A brown suitcase in a closet contained a disassembled handgun, a Jennings .38 caliber with loaded magazine.

The total amount of suspected meth found in the residence was 203 grams or 7.25 ounces plus 28 grams of marijuana.

Ehret was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail by Brown County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Andrew Konechne.
