SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye City Council unanimously approved the second reading of an ordinance Tuesday to sell five acres of city-owned property to Miller Sellner Implement.
The ordinance to sell the property just south of the business for $95,000 was approved on a motion by councilor Doug Pelzel, seconded by Gary Windschitl.
The purchase price of the land is based on current zoning of agriculture. It would need to be rezoned for the parcel to be used for the implement business.
The ordinance followed the second reading of an ordinance to approve the plat of the Miller Sellner second addition on a motion by Nate Stevermer seconded by Doug Pelzel.
The property was acquired by the city in an earlier land swap involving farm land inside the Sleepy Eye Snow Farm addition.
Miller Sellner General Manager Doug Miller said the property was purchased for future equipment parking and a parking lot that would be part of a building expansion project.
The council unanimously approved Mayor Wayne Pelzel’s appointment of Lucas Heiderscheidt on the planning and zoning committee.
It also approved a gambling permit for the Sleepy Eye Arena Association at Poppy’s Bar & Play, formerly the Railway.
New firefighters Brandon Hansen and Jeff Mathiowetz were also hired.
The council approved election judges for the 2022 primary and general election: head judges Rita Weiss and Michelle Strate and judges Eva Thoms, Jane Fischer, Connie Knutson, Margaret Kuebler, Diane Maurer, DeeAnn Gieseke, Vickie Kral, Deb Brandl, Amber Sommerfeld, Bob Elston, Denise Ludewig, Carol Wendland and Colleen Hemme.
Approved donations were $500 from the Koozie Group to the Sleepy Eye Fire Dept., $100 from Mathwiowetz Construction to Sleepy Eye Ambulance and $50 from Daniel and Katie Johnson in memory of Kevin Reinarts.
