TEL roundup: Springfield hands Hanska first loss

SPRINGFIELD 9, HANSKA 2

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Tigers defeated the Hanska Lakers 9-2 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Jordan Milbrath earned the win for the Tigers, striking out three and allowing one run on four hits and eight walks in 5 2/3 innings. At the plate, Madden Lendt was 3 for 5 with three runs scored, while Milbrath was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ryan Sturm had two hits and an RBI, and Decker Scheffler had two hits and three runs scored. Jacob Poehler had two hits.

Colin Anderson took the loss for Hanska, striking out five and allowing five runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. At the plate, Tanner Olson was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Sawyer Olson had two hits.

Springfield (7-2) hosts Essig on Sunday, while Hanska (9-1) plays a nonleague game at Blue Earth on Wednesday.

SEARLES 7, LEAVENWORTH 4

SEARLES — The Searles Grizzlies topped the Leavenworth Orioles 7-4 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Kolton Achman earned the win for Searles, striking out four and allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits in seven innings. At the plate, Tony Geiger was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Noah Wilmes was 2 for 2 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Nathan Vance had two hits and an RBI.

Dylan Hillesheim took the loss for Leavenworth, striking out two and allowing three runs on six hits in six innings. At the plate, Jackon Ludewig and Jevan Richert each had two hits.

Searles (4-4) plays at Sleepy Eye on Friday, while Leavenworth (2-4) plays at New Ulm on Wednesday.

SLEEPY EYE 5, FAIRFAX 0

FAIRFAX — The Sleepy Eye Indians downed the Fairfax Cardinals 5-0 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Marcus Martinez earned the win for SLeepy Eye, striking out 12 and allowing four hits in a complete-game shutout. At the plate, Cole Eckstein had three hits, while Sam Tessmer was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while Kaleb Butenhoff was 2 for 5 with an RBI.

Ethan Louwagie took the loss for Fairfax, striking out six and allowing three runs, one earned, on seven hits and four walks in 6 2/3 innings. At the plate, Tom Lokensgard had two hits.

Sleepy Eye (2-6) hosts Searles on Friday, while Fairfax (2-7) hosts Cleveland in a nonleague game on Friday.

NEW ULM 7, GIBBON 6

GIBBON — The New Ulm Brewers defeated the Gibbon Reds 7-6 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Jace Schaefer earned the win for New Ulm, striking out one and allowing one run on three hits in three innings. Jeremy Wieland pitched five innings, striking out four and allowing five runs on seven hits. At the plate, Tate Becker was 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Noel Davila was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Sam Keckeisen had a home run and two RBIs.

Nolan Huiras took the loss for Gibbon, striking out four and allowing one run on two hits in three innings. Layton Hamre pitched six innings, striking out one and allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits. At the plate, Huiras was 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Kaden Rieke was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Josh Wasmund had a home run and three RBIs.

New Ulm (6-1) hosts Leavenworth on Wednesday, while Gibbon (4-5) plays at Springfield on Wednesday, July 1.

COURTLAND 10, ESSIG 3

ESSIG — The Courtland Cubs defeated the Essig Bluejays 10-3 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Josh Giefer earned the win for Courtland, striking out five and allowing two runs on nine hits in five innings. Teagan Kamm pitched four innings, striking out three and allowing one run on three hits. At the plate, N Johnson was 3 for 5 with an RBI, while Jackson Boe had two hits with a home run. Carter Lang was 2 for 4 with three runs scored, Nolan Drill was 2 for 4, Maddox Mortenson had two hits and an RBI, and Teddy Giefer had a home run.

Sam Hanson took the loss for Essig, allowing eight runs, five earned, on nine hits in five innings. At the plate, Winston Nienhaus, Josh VanderPlas and Erich Prokesh each had two hits and an RBI.

Courtland (7-2) plays at Stark on Friday, while Essig (2-8) plays at Springfield on Sunday.

SPRINGFIELD 8, STARK 5

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Tigers defeated the Stark Longhorns 8-5 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Friday.

Aiden Moriarty earned the win for Springfield, striking out two and allowing one run one one hit and six walks in three innings. Tyler Dick made the start, striking out three and allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in four innings. At the plate for the Tigers, Tyler Hach, Jacob Poehler and Noah Neperman each had two hits and two RBI, while Adiel Trevino and Ryan Sturm each had two hits and one RBI.

Kessler Severson took the loss for Stark, striking out two and allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings. At the plate, Nick Labat was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Talan Helget had two hits and an RBI. Dylan Klein added two hits.

Springfield (6-2) hosts Hanska on Sunday, while Stark (3-5) plays at St. James on Sunday.

COURTLAND 22, SLEEPY EYE 5 (7 INNINGS)

COURTLAND — The Courtland Cubs rolled the Sleepy Eye Indians 22-5 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Friday.

Cole Backer earned the win for Courtland, striking out six and allowing two unearned runs on four hits in four innings. At the plate, Andrew Peters was 4 for 5 with a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored, while Nolan Drill was 3 for 5 with two home runs, eight RBIs and three runs scored. Maddox Mortensen had three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored, and Carter Lang was 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Damien Sanchez too the loss for Sleepy Eye, striking out one and allowing 10 earned runs on 13 hits in three innings. At the plate, Jon Petermann was 4 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Luke Mielke had a home run with three RBIs.

HANSKA 11, GIBBON 1 (7 INNINGS)

HANSKA — The Hanska Lakers cruised by the Gibbon Reds 11-1 in seven innings in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Friday.

Sam Knowles earned the win for Hanska, striking out five and allowing on run on four hits in seven innings. At the plate, Tanner Olson was 4 for 4 with five RBIs, while Knowles was 3 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Brock Wellman had a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Kaden Reike too the loss for Gibbon, striking out two and allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits in three innings. At the plate, Rieke was 2 for 3.
