Veteran Service Bonus application now open

ST. PAUL — Veterans, their beneficiaries and currently serving members who served from Sep. 11, 2001 to Aug. 30, 2021 can now apply for the Post-9/11 Veteran Service Bonus.

Funded by the first-ever Veterans Omnibus and signed by Governor Walz in May, it’s the state’s way of saying “thank you” to Minnesotans who served over the past 20 years.

The Disabled American Veterans Department of Minnesota (DAV MN) played a key role in the creation and passing of the Veterans Omnibus Bill and are excited to share this opportunity with eligible members of the Minnesota Veteran community.

“After over 20 years of global conflict it was time for Minnesota to honor our Post-9/11 Veterans, as we have all wartime Veterans in Minnesota since World War I. We are proud to have gotten this done as a part of the first Veterans Omnibus in Minnesota,” said Trent Dilks, Legislative Director of DAV Minnesota.

There are three tiers to the Post-9/11 Veteran Service Bonus: $600, $1200 and $2,000. Supporting documentation included with the application categorizes the type of service and ultimately the amount awarded. Applicants should have their DD 214, a picture of their Driver’s license and a W9 form prepared to submit when they apply. The last day to apply is June 30, 2024, unless the funds have been exhausted before then.

Dilks’ passion and pride are apparent as he reflects on this incredible achievement for all Minnesota veterans, “Nothing can fully express our gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women of this great state, but hopefully this bonus will remind them of Minnesota’s appreciation for all they have done.”
